Virginia Broitman

Virginia Broitman began training in 1981 and is now a nationally recognized clicker trainer. Her business, North Star Canines, provides behavior counseling and training based on positive reinforcement techniques, and she is a certified CGC Evaluator. She has also trained Service Dogs for people with disabilities, and has worked with a variety of dog rescue groups over the years.Virginia has produced four clicker training videos (, which are sold internationally. She also presents training workshops in the US and internationally, and has been a faculty member of Karen Pryor's Clicker Expos for six years. Her own dogs have participated in pet therapy visits, agility, herding, and TV/advertising work. Currently, she has 5 dogs and 4 pet rats. Visit Virginia's website

Katie Locks

Katie Locks has been a professional dog trainer since 2001 and is the sole proprietor of Lucky Dogs Training and More. She has been actively involved with several breed specific rescues, including DRNA (Dachshund Rescue of North America) and BREW (Beagle Rescue Education and Welfare) since 1999. She is often called upon to evaluate dogs for these rescue programs and other local facilities. She is a certified Canine Good Citizen evaluator and has worked with and trained therapy dogs. Annie, the pictured Walker, is in her care and training as a potential therapy dog. Katie is passionate about saving shelter dogs and has worked with many rescue groups offering profiling and training in a home setting, thus making them more adoptable. She has most recently been instrumental in implementing a training initiative for senior or unadoptable dogs at Southside SPCA. Her efforts have resulted in a dramatic increase in adoptions. Katie lives with her husband and daughter, and has a son serving in the US Army. She is owned by five dogs and two cats.
