Central Virginia Food Bank

Sixty local churches and charities concerned about growing hunger and poverty among the people in the Central Virginia region established the Central Virginia Foodbank in 1980. To address these concerns, the Central Virginia Foodbank became an affiliate of America’s Second Harvest, the Nation’s Food Bank Network. As a member of A2H, our service area is defined in a contract based on the regional availability of food resources. We serve 31 counties and five cities, from the Northern Neck to Louisa County and south to the North Carolina border.

Richmond Animal League

The Richmond Animal League (RAL) is the area’s oldest non-profit “no-kill” organization committed to reducing the homeless pet population in the Richmond area. RAL provides temporary housing, medical treatment, sterilization, and quality care to over 800 companion animals each year until they are adopted into permanent and loving homes.  After 7 years of fundraising activities and the generosity of members, RALs dreams became a reality.  In 1994, RAL opened its new kennel near Chesterfield Towne Center. This facility can house 19 dogs, 30 cats and 20 kittens. Since this facility opened, RAL  helped hundreds more animals.
